Anti-Virus

Someone is always asking about free antivirus programs and which one is best.  For years I was a die hard McAfee (which works great) user.  But as many of you know, I do free pc tech help and I work on a lot of computers and....
Don't we already spend enough money on stuff.  About a year ago I started looking for free antivirus software, both for my use and to put on the computers I work on.

Many months ago, I started using AVG AntiVirus Free Edition, which also did a great job.  Then recently I came across Avira AntiVir and also found where the top 3 free antivirus programs were tested.
The top 3 were..
1. Avira AntiVir
2. Avast Home Edtion
3. AVG Free Edition

From the test results, Avira AntiVir was the best of the 3.

So...I've installed Avira AntiVir and am using it.  It's been working great and I install it on all the computers I work on.

Set-Up Notes:

After installing, open the Avira control panel by double clicking the icon next to your clock on the lower right side of your screen.

Click "Configuration"

Put a checkmark in "Expert mode"

Click "Scanner" and on the right side

Select "All files" in the "Files" section

Put a checkmark in all boxes except "Search for Rootkits before scan" box in the "Additional settings" section

Click the Plus next to "Scan" to expand sub listing and adjust these settings

"Actions for concern" - select "Automatic" and set "Primary action" to "repair" then select "delete" for "Secondary action"

"Archives" - select all 4 boxes

"Heuristic" - set to "Medium detection level"

Click "Guard" and select "All files" in the "Files" section

Click the Plus next to "Scan" to expand the sub listing and adjust these settings

"Heuristic" - select "Medium detection level"

Click "OK" to save settings and exit configuration screen

A good dependable anti-virus program is one of the most important programs to have.

They help keep your computer safe from viruses and trojans. There are many free on-line scans and

free anti-virus programs (see list below), however, We've tried many anti-virus programs over the years and

in our opinion....McAfee is by far the best pay-for anti-virus program going.

NOTE: Nortons is the worst anti-virus I've come across.

It's a resource hog and slows your computer.
