Backup Outlook Express info

 

Don't want to lose your all your e-mail addresses/e-mail account info or have to put all the info back in if your computer crashes or you have to re-install everything?  Then this section is for you.

This tech tip will show you how to backup your address book and your e-mail account settings.

 

NOTE: Save your backed up data to a 2nd physical hard drive.  If you don't have a 2nd hard drive, the data will be small enough that you can save it on a floppy disk or you can save it to a cd with your other important backups.

 

NOTE: Whether you've redone your hard drive or you just lost your Address Book/e-mail account info from a crash or system restore, always go to Windows update and check for any updates before you import your backed up Address Book/e-mail account info.

 

Backing up your Address Book:
1. Go to Start....Programs....Accessories
2. Open....Address Book
3. In your Address Book....go to File....Export...click on Address Book (WAB).

Select a location to save your address book to and give it a name in the File name window and click Save.

 

Importing your Address Book:
1. Go to Start....Programs....Accessories
2. Open....Address Book
3. In your Address Book....go to File....Import...click on Address Book (WAB).

Select the location of your of your backed up WAB file and double click on it to import it back into Outlook Express.

 

Backing up your e-mail accounts:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Go to Tools....Accounts
3. Highlight the Account and click Export.  Type in a name for your account in the File name: field and click Save.
4. Repeat step 3 if you have multiple e-mail accounts.

 

Importing your e-mail accounts:
1. Open Outlook Express
2. Go to Tools....Accounts
3. Highlight the Account and click Import.  Using the browser, locate your backed up e-mail account file and double click on it.
4. Repeat step 3 if you have multiple e-mail accounts.
